Copy assets in hexels5/30/2023 Next time you run Pico-8, the game is updated with your art! With the new in-game drawing app you can get to changing the sprites right away (again, very WIP prototype): The game programer in the storyline is making a snake game and asks you to design sprites for it. How does all this work in Pixel Art Academy? Well, Pico-8 is an app on your PixelBoy 2000! (Excuse the placeholder menu assets and shitty non-pixel-perfect GIF recording.) The whole community is creating crazy awesome stuff and as soon as I found out about it I became a huge fan. It boots into a file system and with a press of a button you’re in the editing tools where you can write code, make sound effects and music, and yes, design pixel art sprites (if you’re in the scene, the 16-color #pico8 palette is pretty popular). It’s a virtual/fantasy console developed by Zep from Lexaloffle (of Voxatron fame) and it’s so much like the 80s it makes me cry with joy. If you haven’t yet heard of Pico-8, you’re in for a treat. I’m playing with the idea for having Pico-8 in our game Pixel Art Academy. Pixel Art Academy - Unofficial Pico-8 integration Maybe I should enter, hahaha, and make some promo art for Pixel Art Academy.
Work timer chrome5/30/2023 It’s simple enough for beginners but advanced enough for people who want something more complex than just notes about their day or week. If you want to be able to track how much time you spend on each project, but don’t want an extension that will record every little thing (like opening and closing tabs), then this is a great option for you. They also allow you to break up projects into smaller tasks so that they’re more manageable, which makes it easier to get them done quickly and accurately. Time tracking extensions will record how much time you spend on each task, including breaks so that you can see where your time is going. Whether you’re working on an important project or just trying to get caught up on your work, these extensions can help ensure that you get everything done in the right order and give yourself the credit for doing so. Scallop dredge5/29/2023 Target species have varied throughout the years, and the fleet has adapted to new and emerging opportunities based on the available fisheries. Scallop fisheries must also be managed in unison with other fisheries in order to restore diversity and resilience to oceans facing an uncertain future of climate change and growing anthropogenic pressure.Dredge fisheries in the Solent have historically supported a number of fishers from ports including Lymington, Warsash, Portsmouth, Langstone, Chichester, Cowes, Bembridge and Yarmouth. Spatial management is showing great promise where it has been applied as it can offer a win–win scenario, which protects vulnerable habitats while boosting scallop stocks by providing breeding and nursery refuges however, spatial management must be carefully planned to maximise biological benefits while accounting for socio-economic factors. In terms of reducing the ecosystem effects of dredging, an approach that combines effort control, gear modifications, and spatial management is suggested. Continued study of these areas will be a key to gaining a better understanding in the future. Long-term protected areas are beginning to provide insights into the recovery and composition of benthic communities in the absence of dredging. Determining the full effects of dredging remains difficult, however, because most fishing grounds have been exploited for decades, long before scientific study began. Reef and cobble habitats also appear relatively susceptible, but soft sediments such as sand, mud and gravel (which are the focus of most scallop fisheries) appear more resilient, particularly in areas adapted to high levels of natural disturbance. The most severe are in biogenic reefs such as formed by maerl and mussels, so there is a strong argument for fully protecting such areas. Despite these general rules, the magnitude of effects varies considerably in different habitats. Scallop dredging also catches a variety of more mobile species such as crustaceans, echinoderms, fishes, and in certain areas, sea turtles, which is clearly of concern. This is significant because such habitats are key nursery and feeding areas for a wide range of species, including commercially important fish and shellfish. In general, dredging causes loss of biodiversity and reduces the complexity of benthic habitats by flattening substrates and removing structurally complex species such as hydroids, bryozoans and seaweeds. Here the evidence for negative effects arising from this practice is reviewed and suggestions offered as to ways in which scallop fisheries might be better managed. This is particularly the case for the most common type of fisheries that use dredges to rake scallops off the seafloor. Despite this apparent success story, concerns have arisen about the wider ecosystem effects of scallop fisheries. Global landings of scallops have grown dramatically in recent decades and these fisheries are now among the most lucrative in several countries around the world. The Crusades began in 1095, when Pope Urban summoned a Christian army to fight its way to Jerusalem, and continued on and off until the end of the 15th century. (They also received more worldly rewards, such as papal protection of their property and forgiveness of some kinds of loan payments.) Crusaders, who wore red crosses on their coats to advertise their status, believed that their service would guarantee the remission of their sins and ensure that they could spend all eternity in Heaven. Toward the end of the 11th century, the Catholic Church began to authorize military expeditions, or Crusades, to expel Muslim “infidels” from the Holy Land. And religious scholars and mystics translated, interpreted and taught the Quran and other scriptural texts to people across the Middle East. Inventors devised technologies like the pinhole camera, soap, windmills, surgical instruments, an early flying machine and the system of numerals that we use today. Scholars translated Greek, Iranian and Indian texts into Arabic. Poets, scientists and philosophers wrote thousands of books (on paper, a Chinese invention that had made its way into the Islamic world by the 8th century). Under the caliphs, great cities such as Cairo, Baghdad and Damascus fostered a vibrant intellectual and cultural life. At its height, the medieval Islamic world was more than three times bigger than all of Christendom. After the prophet Muhammad’s death in 632 CE, Muslim armies conquered large parts of the Middle East, uniting them under the rule of a single caliph. Meanwhile, the Islamic world was growing larger and more powerful. These policies helped it to amass a great deal of money and power. Ordinary people across Europe had to “tithe” 10 percent of their earnings each year to the Church at the same time, the Church was mostly exempt from taxation. Over time, Charlemagne’s realm became the Holy Roman Empire, one of several political entities in Europe whose interests tended to align with those of the Church. In 800 CE, for example, Pope Leo III named the Frankish king Charlemagne the “Emperor of the Romans”–the first since that empire’s fall more than 300 years before. Kings, queens and other leaders derived much of their power from their alliances with and protection of the Church. Instead, the Catholic Church became the most powerful institution of the medieval period. The Catholic Church in the Middle AgesĪfter the fall of Rome, no single state or government united the people who lived on the European continent. However, today’s scholars note that the era was as complex and vibrant as any other. This way of thinking about the era in the “middle” of the fall of Rome and the rise of the Renaissance prevailed until relatively recently. It was especially deadly in cities, where it was impossible to prevent the transmission of the disease from one person to another. The people of the Middle Ages had squandered the advancements of their predecessors, this argument went, and mired themselves instead in what 18th-century English historian Edward Gibbon called “barbarism and religion.”ĭid you know? Between 13, a mysterious disease known as the "Black Death" (the bubonic plague) killed some 20 million people in Europe-30 percent of the continent’s population. Accordingly, they dismissed the period after the fall of Rome as a “Middle” or even “Dark” age in which no scientific accomplishments had been made, no great art produced, no great leaders born. Starting around the 14th century, European thinkers, writers and artists began to look back and celebrate the art and culture of ancient Greece and Rome. The phrase “Middle Ages” tells us more about the Renaissance that followed it than it does about the era itself. "iPhone review blitzkrieg: Pangea edition". ^ a b Spencer, Spanner (July 15, 2008).The iOS version offered a four-player online multiplayer via Game Center. Similar to Capture The Flag, Quest For Fire splits the players into two teams, trying to seize five torches from the enemies and move them to their base. Survive allows the players to slam karts and fire weapons at the opponents, until only one vehicle is left. Meanwhile, in Stampede, the winner is the one to stay as the "it" for two minutes. and ends when all but one of the players has been eliminated from the game by being "it" far too long. Keep-Away begins with one player being "it", with the goal of being the last man standing by avoiding the elimination by staying the "it" for a long time. There are two versions of Tag, both being each other's opposites: Keep-Away and Stampede. Race is the usual mode with the players having a battle for the first place. A number of modes are available, such as Race, Tag, Survive, and Quest For Fire. On the Mac version, the game allows up to six players to compete via local area network. Ĭro-Mag Rally has multiple multiplayer variants. There is a Physics Editor, which allows the player to alter elements of play such as speed, acceleration, suspension, and traction of each car, as well as gravity. To make a progress, the player has to finish the race in third position or higher, while collecting eight arrowheads across the level at the same time. In the Mac version, the single player part consists of a Practice Mode, where the players can test the cars and tracks, and a Tournament Mode with nine stages divided between three periods: the Bronze Age, the Stone Age, and the Iron Age. It has two game modes: Race, with a focus on beating the others to the finish line, and Gather, which relies on picking up arrowheads on the track as fast as possible. A variety of options can be adjusted separately, like steering sensitivity. The iOS version uses the accelerometer for steering left and right, with specific touch-screen buttons for driving forwards/backwards and weapons. However, as the progress is made, all eleven vehicles can be unlocked. They all behave diversely, making a distinction in control, speed, suspension and traction attributes. At the beginning, only a few vehicles are available. During the race, the players can pick up power ups (including bombs, nitro, tire traction, and oil slicks) that can be used against the opponents. Each course is unlocked from the start, and are made of 3 laps each with several difficulty options. The goal is to guide the caveman through different sets of tracks that include hazards, such as pits or tornado. Inspired by Mario Kart, the game centers around two caveman racers, Brog and Grag in vehicles made out of materials associated with cavemen, as they race through stages of ancient history. It was originally released for Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X, and was later ported to iOS, Xbox 360, Android, and Windows Phone 7. Cro-Mag Rally is a kart racing game developed by Pangea Software and published by Aspyr, which takes place in caveman times. Minify images5/29/2023 Lossless: This is a filter that compresses the data. The example we used above is using lossy compression. You can use tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Affinity Photo, or other image editors to adjust the quality settings of an image. The file size can be reduced by a large amount. This will degrade the image, so you’ll have to be careful of how much to reduce the image. Lossy: This is a filter that eliminates some of the data. It is also important to understand that there are two types of compression you can use: lossy and lossless. Understand Lossy vs Lossless Optimization Medium compression (great quality) JPG – 151 KB 3. Typically simpler images like PNGs should be under 100 KB or less for best performance. This is almost 4x smaller than the original photo with low compression. So we took the image again at a medium compression rate and as you can see below, the quality looks good now and the file size is 151 KB, which is acceptable for a high-resolution photo. What you want to do is find a happy medium between your compression rate (quality) and the file size. The second image obviously looks horrible, but then it is only 68 KB. 590 KB would be a fourth of that already. That is pretty large for one photo! It is generally best if you can keep a webpage’s total weight under 1 or 2 MB in size. Low compression (high quality) JPG – 590 KB High compression (low quality) JPG – 68 KBĪs you can see the first image above is 590 KB. Note: The original image untouched is 2.06 MB. The second is using a very high compression rate, which results in a very low-quality image (but smaller file size). The first is using a very low compression rate, which results in the highest quality (but larger file size). Here is an example of what can happen you compress an image too much. (Suggested reading: JPG vs JPEG: Understanding the Most Common Image File Format) 2. Ideally, you should use JPEG or JPG for images with lots of color and PNG for simple images. There are several others, such as JPEG XR and WebP, but they’re not universally supported by all browsers. It’s the best choice for animated images. You can adjust the quality level for a good balance of quality and file size. JPEG – uses lossy and lossless optimization. Was created as a lossless image format, although it can also be lossy. PNG – produces higher quality images, but also has a larger file size. There are several types of files you can use: We’ll go into this more below.īefore you start modifying your images, make sure you’ve chosen the best file type. □ Optimize them!
